Smiter build request
I have found almost no smiter builds posted here or on wiki. I am so sick of healing and prot builds and want to try my hand at smiting some demons and undead in NF. Could someone give a build they use? Please don't post SoJ builds. I plan on running smite with a full party of henchies and heros.

you can run Soj with hench and heroes; just make sure that you have one melee hero and rest casters, let him/her run in and soj, then let the other casters go in after - flags ftw.

id suggest 20/20 cast/recharge wand and offhand from factions 15k armour places, but beyond that, i dunno.
maybe mo/me and use arcane echo and maybe echo, or /e for the glyphs
be cool if someone could post a build which could compair in damage to say a ele..

My very simple Mo/E build which I've been using with henches and heroes:
Signet of Judgement
Bane Signet
Signet of Rage
Banish
Spear of Light
Smite
Ash Blast
Rebirth
The damage is decent and I don't need any energy management, plus the signets cut through the spellbreaking monsters. Ash blast is cast after the signet knockdowns to blind. Or you can substitute it for any other skill you like.
For heavy defense towards the end of Nightfall, I change to:
Signet of Judgement
Bane Signet
Banish
Spear of Light
Armor of Earth
Ward Against Melee
Ward Against Elements
Rebirth
I also bring along Zhed to cast Ward Against Harm alongside me for those areas with extreme fire damage.

Ray of Judgment if you got acces to Factions skills.
One of the higher damage dealing smiting Prayers that is
Combine with Divine Spirit for lower energy cost and you can do quite some damage

Ray of Judgement seems pretty weak to me. Sure it does nice damage. But 15e cost? 2 second cast time? 20 second recharge? All non-Smiting skills disabled for 10 seconds?
110 damage (or whatever) every 22 seconds is nothing.
Compare:
[skill]Ray of Judgment[/skill]
[skill]Searing Flames[/skill]
Smiting could use a buff if you ask me. The spells that are actually worth using suffer for high costs, long recharges, and often long cast times as well. In most cases there are just better options.

What about Word of Censure? Seems like a good, cheap way to kill stuff.
Easy cap, too.

Please don't turn this into a debate about smite vs other types of damage. As you guys know, NF is super easy PvE with heros. What I am looking for is a SMITE build that I can run with a full compliment of henchies and heroes. I guess if smite is totally useless I could run necro or ele build on my monk, but want to do smite because I never have except for 55/soj builds. I will experiment with RoJ tonight. The build does not have to be uber damage, I just want my monk to hold its own. Thanks for replies!

Smite is worthless. About the most effective PvE build you can get is maintaining Strength of Honor and Judge's Insight on a few warriors, and that certainly isn't very exciting.
If you really wanted to, you can turn everyone into walking firestorms (complete with aoe scatter) using the standard zfire build. This is a bad idea unless you somehow *like* chasing enemies all over the map.

I have to agree with Rera, even though playing through NF as a monk, I currently run a smite build, lol. But, yea, smiting is pretty much useless, at least compared to elementalists. It's a real shame smiting is limited to solo/dual/farming/gimmick builds for the most part. I do think, however, that many people overlook the usefulness of a true smiter when facing the undead.
Anyway, my build is pretty simple (I don't have Factions mind you). Like the guy a few posts up, I run a Mo/E, only I use Glyph of Lesser Energy, Balt's Aura on Koss (works very well w/ the new AI update believe it or not) whom I equip with Rush to catch any fleers, and Smite Hex is almost always on my skill bar. Along with Signet of Judgement [elite], these are the primary spells I use to deal dmg. The rest is a hybrid of protection, healing, or earth depending on what the situation calls for.
But, in all honesty, I probably would never run this build in a real player group, but it's fun to play in PvE.

Smite is useless in PvE.... ONLY if you are utterly uncreative...
Mo/Me
Max Smite.
Rest in Inspiration.
Signet of Judgement
Bane Signet
Signet of Rage
Mantra of Inscriptions
Power Drain/Leech Signet
Smite Hex/Ether Feast
Smite/Spear of Light/Reversal of Damage
Symbol of Wrath/Kirin's Wrath/Balthazar's Aura/Rez
Can be great fun. 2 KD's with descent AoE. Admittedly sigs are slow casting 2-3 second... but none the less works pretty well. The alternate choices can help for different alternate situations. People dismiss things too easily. Thats why i love this game so much...so many possible skill combos just blow my mind!
Hope this gives yall some ideas!
Cheers!

I like Wo Censure, but it is hefty. I've got _a_ smite build, but I don't promise it to be teh leetest. It works though.
Word of Censure
Smite
Spear of Light
Bane Sig
iHex
Energy Tap
Balth's Aura
Res
In PvE, all the monsters attack (even casters wand), so you won't have trouble getting the conditional.
I don't trust signets, especially late game in NF, where there are monsters with Ignorance.
Word of Censure is pricey, and etap does nothing to fix that. However, I haven't really devoted the time to finding a better unconditional solution.

As I have found in the past Smiting can be a difficult line to work with. My brother is durrently trying to mix smiting with protection for general PvE use with some success...but that's hardly a constructive post.
Back on topic. Has anyone tried [wiki]Defender's Zeal[/wiki]? It looks interesting and I wondered if it would be a worthwhile form of energy management for a smiting monk?

Defender's Zeal isn't bad if the enemies don't have much hex removal. I imagine it would work fine in most of PvE, although I haven't tried it.

Celestial, I use a mixed Smite/Prot build in general PvE. It isn't ub3r-l33t-h4X-pwnage or whatever, but it's got me to the Bone Palace without problems.
Smiting Prayers - 12 + 1 + 3 = 16
Protection Prayers - 10 + 1 = 11
Divine Favour - 8 + 1 = 9

[skill]Zealot's Fire[/skill]

There's just not much point. Things die way too fast for it to even matter.
